Why Flexibility Matters More Than You Think
Strength builds power. Endurance builds stamina. But flexibility helps determine how freely you can move through the ranges your activities require. Whether you're exercising, playing tennis, cycling, or simply moving through your day, flexibility plays a role.
The importance of range of motion
Range of motion describes how far a joint can move in a particular direction. Different movements require different ranges. Bending down, reaching overhead, and rotating your torso all place different demands on the body. Limited flexibility can sometimes make these movements more challenging.
The science behind flexibility improvements
A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis of 85 studies found that both static stretching and foam rolling can improve joint range of motion. This reinforces an important principle: flexibility can be developed through regular movement practices. However, improving flexibility does not automatically prevent injuries or eliminate pain.
Where guided stretching fits
At recovery+, guided stretching provides an individualized experience centered on flexibility. A recovery specialist guides you through stretches with attention to positioning, comfort, and your personal goals. Instead of treating stretching as something you might do after a workout, guided sessions create dedicated time for it.
Make flexibility part of your routine
You don't have to become exceptionally flexible to benefit from flexibility training. The goal is to develop the range of motion that supports the activities you value.
